It's National "National Month" Month
I try to keep with marketing campaigns, but believe it or not, I missed a few.
For example, May has come to an end and I didn’t even know it was National Salad Month.
I was finally clued in when I bought one of those prepared salads at Safeway the other day and saw this sticker on it.
Okay, maybe it’s just some ploy by Safeway to get rid of some lettuce, but I checked with some reliable sources. It’s true. I kid you not.
Seems the Association for Dressings & Sauces wants to remind us to eat like rabbits, but my guess is that it’s the dressings and sauces that they really want to promote. And you know what? I was right.
The press release (links to PDF) says it all
"Yes, everyone knows salads are good for you; but here’s a newsflash - so are salad dressings. Research has shown that eating salad vegetables with some added fat, such as full-fat salad dressings, promotes the absorption of lycopene, alpha- and betacarotenes, all of which aid in the fight against cancer and heart disease. Even better, the majority of salad dressings are and have always been trans fat free. So pour on the flavor!"
Seems a bit contrived to me, but I’ll give the Association for Dressings & Sauces a bit of leeway here. After all, they have a lot of competition.
You see, it was a busy month because May was also:
National Water Safety Month (conveniently coinciding with National Aquatic Week)
National Barbecue Month (links to PDF)
National Electrical Safety Month
Okay, I’ve decided, June is going to be National Writer’s Month.
That does not mean you’re supposed to spend the month writing. It means you’re supposed to hire a writer. Just to make that clear, here’s my own sticker:
