Sugar Rush
It’s interesting to see how our view of things change over time, and old ads offer a great snapshot of how previous generations saw things.
But what were they thinking?
It seems to me as if eating lots of sugar used to be part of a healthy diet. Here are a few examples.
According to the Sugar Information Council, sugar actually helped you lose weight back in the 1970s. Okay, they don’t promise actual weight loss, but sugar helps you “undereat” – so of course an ice cream cone just before lunch is part of a healthy diet.

Trouble is, you may have had this for breakfast – cereal with ice cream already in it.. Okay, it’s actually “freeze-dried” ice cream, whatever the heck that means:

But there are plenty of other choices for breakfast. Here’s a slice of toast doused in corn syrup for “plenty of instant energy.”

And if you’re still hungry for dinner, there’s always McDonalds, where back in the 70s, you could feed a family of four a few thousand calories for less than $4.

On the other hand, if after packing in all those carbs for a few years, you were getting a bit portly – no problem. Just buy a jar of sanitized tapeworms.

They’re “easy to swallow” and, most importantly, no diet or exercise required.
I guess some things never really change.
